Just a short 1-hour flight from Addis, Arba Minch is the perfect, nature-focussed get away for families. Nestled between two stunning lakes, Abaya and Chamo, it's a paradise for nature lovers. Archie enjoyed then boat trip on Lake Chamo to witness the famous "Crocodile Market," where Nile crocodiles bask in the sun, although only one surfaced.

We had the privilege of visiting a local Dorze village, renowned for their unique, towering bamboo elephant-esque houses and intricate weaving. This off-the-beaten-path destination provides a blend of wildlife encounters and cultural experiences that will create lasting memories for the whole family. We’ll be back to Arba Minch for sure!

Having lived in Ethiopia for two years, I was still amazed by the beauty and uniqueness of the Omo Valley. It felt like stepping into a National Geographic magazine! Driving from one side of the Rift Valley to the other, we encountered incredibly distinct tribes amidst spectacular landscapes reminiscent of Jurassic Park.

After a long journey from Arba Minch, our first stop was the Konso tribe, known for their ancient, intricate village designs. We even witnessed young men practicing a traditional boulder hurl, a test of readiness for marriage.

Further on, the Karo tribe along the Omo River captivated us with their striking face and body paintings. Though a polygamist culture, men and women largely lead separate daily lives. We also visited their proud, albeit rudimentary, village school.

Finally, the Mursi tribe, famous for the lip and ear plates worn by their women, left a lasting impression. Encountering these humble people, so willing to share their history and culture, was truly a humbling experience. The Omo Valley is a testament to Ethiopia's incredible diversity.
