Eat in Bangkok.
Although you will be spoilt for choice for Thai food in Bangkok, we cannot recommend The Local highly enough. Unlike the Thai food that you might get in your hotel, the service at The Local second-to-none and the food is delightfully full of Thai flavours in perfectly-sized proportions. Located in Sukhamvit, you won’t be disappointed is this beautiful little restaurant.
When you’re feeling a bit ‘over’ Thai food, take yourself to Pastel, a Mediterranean restaurant located near Terminal 21 mall. The food is delicious but the vibe and the views are spectacular. I had the lamb shanks (obvs) but my favourite dish was the shared mezze plate. Archie loved the Frito Misto. Warning: You’ll need to dress up a little for this one - no open-toed shoes allowed.
Ready to take the fanciness down a notch but the flavour up? You can do no better than Din Tai Fung. Renowned all over the world for its chef’s-hat-rated dumplings, you’ll be happy to be in, fed and out within an hour, and… you’ll be fully satisfied. Ensure you get the steamed pork dumplings for the authentic experience.

Stay in Krabi.
We’d been recommended to go to Krabi for a beach-style retreat and, keen to avoid the craziness of Phuket, we were not disappointed. Due to low-season, The Sofitel had a great deal going so we booked an AirAsia flight through trip.com to/from Bangkok and off we went. The Sofitel arranged an airport shuttle for us and there was no fuss at all… just a long drive (50 mins) to the resort. I always recognise ‘fancy’ when I’m seated on a lounge for the check-in process and provided with a refreshing beverage, and, of course, this is what happened.
Once that was all sorted, we went straight to the pool which has an awesome inflatable course which Archie was on every chance he got. It also had a swim-up bar which we love. One of the key reasons we chose this resort was for the Kids Club which was pretty well attended so we signed Archie up for a 3-day ½ day package for about $50 a day which included a ‘make-your-own’ pizza lunch, tie-dyed t-shirt, hat and bag, and a shell mobile (my favourite ;). The Kids Club afforded us time to have massages. We got a 2-for-1 deal and Rob said it was the best massage he’s ever had.
There are heaps of activities; I went to yoga each morning and there’s also sunrise bike rides, kick-boxing, and tennis as well as a good size gym.
Eating and drinking at the resort is $$$ so head out to the beach for dinner that a third of the price. There’s also a 7-Eleven in close proximity for snacks, etc.
This resort is tailored towards families with food and activity options for kids everywhere. Highly recommend!
